Memorial Golf Tournament for Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation
The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation will be hosting its Tee off for Testicular Cancer event at Club West Golf Club in Phoenix on November 8th 2013. This event is in memory of Justin Muriett a valley teen who passed away last year after a brave battle with testicular cancer.
The tournament will raise funds for an education program that would allow the foundation to educate young men across the country about the importance of awareness, a monthly self-check, and early detection of a disease that if caught early is very treatable.
Justin was diagnosed late stage, when the cancer had already spread throughout his body. At one point it left him paralyzed from the waist down due to a tumor compressing his spinal cord. Despite extensive treatment and surgeries, Justin succumbed to the disease just 10 short months after diagnosis. With proper awareness programs in place, we feel that cases like Justin’s would be found much earlier and the outcomes could be different. However this cancer is rarely talked about, especially in the younger age group.
Testicular cancer is the leading cancer in young men ages 15-35, and often goes undetected until it is very advanced. The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundations mission is to promote early detection of this curable disease through the use of social media, live events, the distribution of educational printed materials, and a presence in schools and youth organizations. We also provide financial assistance to families that are in immediate need. We believe in the importance of the monthly self-check and we promote that in all of our materials.
The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation is a non-profit organization formed in 2009 by Kim Jones after her son was diagnosed with late stage testicular cancer and she realized that there was a lack of awareness about the disease. Her son is now cancer free due to her diligent efforts and willingness to seek out the best care for him. She was able to use the information she gained and the contacts she made to grow the organization to where it is today.
Please join us in our efforts to raise the funds necessary to put our education plans into action across the country by registering to play or sponsor our event. The tournament is a 4 man scramble format, with a shotgun start at 8:00 am. After the event there will be lunch, prizes, and a presentation from TCAF.
