Scottsdale Public Arts presents Canal Convergence: Water + Art + Light
WHEN: Nov 7, 2013 – Nov 10, 2013
VENUE:Â The Scottsdale Waterfront
Scottsdale, Ariz. (October 17, 2013) – Canal Convergence events, presented by Scottsdale Public Art and SRP, bring innovative local and international artists together with Valley residents for a celebration of community, canals, and the arts. At the first of the annual two part series, Canal Convergence | Water + Art+ Light, guests of all ages can expect to witness renowned works of art from across the Atlantic Ocean to installations created by our favorite local visionaries.
The the event takes place on the banks of the Arizona Canal at Scottsdale Waterfront from Soleri Bridge & Plaza at Scottsdale Road to Goldwater Road (just SW of Scottsdale & Camelback Roads), Thursday, November 7 through Sunday, November 10.
Unmatched by other Arizona celebrations, Canal Convergence features the internationally acclaimed artwork Voyage, a mobile-interactive installation by United Kingdom-based Aether & Hemera. Aether & Hemera have shown work across the UK and in Italy since 2006. This vibrant, large-scale installation will be floating between the Soleri Bridge and Marshall Way Bridge—lighting up the Arizona Canal November 7-18.
Attendees will have an opportunity to see one-of-a-kind art installations while enjoying live music, food trucks, and the unique urban marketplace experience featuring local vendors provided by Artisan Markets.

Valley residents of all ages are invited to share and connect with local artist Erin V. Sotak’s participatory project, Message in a Boat. Sotak’s work is conceived as a way to engage the community in a social and illustrative way. Participants will place their messages in a boat —personal thoughts, opinions, and dreams by typing, writing, or drawing.
Another featured artist, Ryan Griffin, creates visual artwork and a performance piece to complement the architectural facades of the Scottsdale Waterfront. The interactive artwork, Paisajes de Luz | Landscapes of Light, is portrayed through digital projection. Griffin evolves and unfolds his artwork live on the Friday and Saturday nights of Canal Convergence.
Attendees will also be able to admire and interpret installations from several additional artists throughout the weekend. Artists include Tomiko Jones, Joy Holland, and Gabe Pecina. Special features during the four-day event also include Everything Flows, a Twilight Transition Performance on Soleri Bridge and Plaza, by Ashley Macias and Liliana Gomez & Dance Company on Saturday, November 9 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Everything Flows is an artistic display of human form and water merging as one.
