Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Josh Olson has made a career out of helping people find their inner beauty.
“Our goal is to give women (and men) renewed confidence in the beauty they have always had,” Dr. Olson says.
An Arizona native, Dr. Olson kept to his roots and opened his plastic surgery practice in Scottsdale in 2013. Dr. Olson’s practice, Advanced Plastic Surgery Institute, offers a comprehensive menu of plastic surgery services, including breast augmentation, tummy tuck, nose surgery, and more. Other less-invasive treatments are also available through his medical spa and include popular options such as BOTOX®, dermal fillers, laser hair removal, and CoolSculpting®. Although some plastic surgeons delegate these “smaller” procedures, Dr. Olson performs many of them himself.
“Even minimally invasive or non-invasive cosmetic treatments are medical procedures that should be performed by a provider with the appropriate training and experience,” he says.
The training Dr. Olson refers to is a board-certification process – one that only the most dedicated plastic surgeons achieve, and one that Dr. Olson has earned. To become certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, doctors are required to complete specialized training after medical school that focuses specifically on plastic surgery. According to his website, a surgeon who has undergone this advanced training has:
• Graduated from an accredited medical school
• Completed at least 5 years of additional training as a resident surgeon in an accredited program, including at least 2 years devoted to plastic surgery
• Practiced plastic surgery for at least 2 years after completing residency training
• Passed comprehensive written and oral exams
• Demonstrated appropriate decision making and excellent outcomes with cases performed during the first year following training
Dr. Olson’s honed surgical skills have garnered him a wide following of hopeful clients and happy patients. He has been named a Top Doctor on RealSelf – the country’s largest online cosmetic enhancement community and forum. He was also recently invited to join the office of Dr. Robert Cohen, another well-known and highly acclaimed plastic surgeon in Scottsdale.
Dr. Olson has a passion for helping people develop their inner confidence, which is why he sponsored the Miss Arizona pageant last year.
“The Miss Arizona pageant helps cultivate self-confidence and strong leadership in the next generation of young Arizona women – women who want to make a difference in the local community and the communities across our state,” he writes on his blog. “And that’s why I’m so proud that our practice is supporting it.”
When he’s not serving his community in Arizona, Dr. Olson is traveling abroad to offer his skill set to those in need. He often visits under-served countries around the world – including Africa and Central America – to provide much-needed medical care. Dr. Olson says that these difficult but rewarding trips give him a feeling of perspective and help him stay grounded when he returns home to his wife and their 3 children.
